ICONOGRAPHY IN CRIME FILMS:
Iconography is basically the imagery used in specific genre films which is why they are important because they register the tone and the genre to the general audience. Classic crime genre films have used shadows to create tension and conotes danger and mystery to the audience. Moreover, guns are used as well to show conflict and also identify to the audience who the aggressor is to the audience. Knives are also used to create tension and build audience engagement.
